What Happens To My Scrap Car?
As the last registered owner of your scrap car you probably want to know what happens to it once we have collected it.
As the last registered owner of your old car you probably want to know exactly what happens to your car once we have collected it.
Once your vehicle arrives back at one of our end of life vehicle treatment facilities the car has its photos taken all around. The registration document is then used to provide the information necessary to produce the Certificate of Destruction (COD). For more information on what a COD is you can download the guidance document from the Environment Agency here: COD Leaflet
The vehicle is forklifted into one of our covered de-pollution buildings. The first item to be removed is always the battery. The vehicle then has all its wheels and tyres removed removed including the spare.
We then remove or drain any LPG gas tanks. At the same time any vehicle fitted with air conditioning has all the harmful gases recovered. The scrapped car is then assessed to see if any mercury containing components are present and require removal.
The vehicle is now ready to have all the potentially explosive components deployed or removed. This includes air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners.
The scrapped car will now be moved onto one of our "de-pollution rigs". These are professionally made by an internationally recognised leader in environment friendly vehicle fluid drainage technology.
On one of our rigs the vehicle will have all the potentially harmfull fluids removed. These fluids are,
- Fuel
- Motor oil
- Transmission oil
- Gearbox oil
- Hydraulic oil
- Cooling liquids
- Antifreeze
- Brake fluid
- And even windscreen washer fluid
While draining oils we also remove the oil filters for crushing.
Finally the scrapped car will have its catalytic converters removed.
The vehicle is now ready for crushing.
PLEASE NOTE. WE DO NOT PAY CASH FOR SCRAP CARS - IT IS ILLEGAL
